Job Duties
- Lead Quality Engineering activities for New Product Introduction (NPI), supporting products from early development through production readiness and scale-up.
- Develop and execute quality plans, inspection plans, control plans, and process qualification strategies for composite manufacturing processes and equipment.
- Partner with Manufacturing Engineers to ensure Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Quality (DFQ) principles are embedded early in product development.
- Support scaling of composite manufacturing processes for high-volume production, ensuring consistent quality, repeatability, and reliability.
- Define and implement inspection methods, acceptance criteria, and measurement strategies for complex composite structures and assemblies.
- Support process and equipment qualification activities in accordance with customer, regulatory, and internal requirements.
- Collaborate with tooling, automation, and equipment teams to define quality requirements for tooling, fixtures, go/no-go gauges, and inspection aids.
- Perform and support root cause analysis, corrective actions (RCCA), and continuous improvement efforts related to manufacturing and product quality.
- Work directly with technicians and engineers on the shop floor during prototype builds, pilot runs, and production ramp-up.
- Interface with material suppliers and external vendors to ensure incoming materials and outsourced processes meet quality and performance requirements.
- Author and maintain quality-related documentation, including work instructions, inspection requirements, PFMEAs, and validation reports.
- Ensure all quality activities align with aerospace regulatory requirements, customer specifications, and internal quality systems.
Job Qualifications
- Strong experience supporting NPI programs in an aerospace or advanced manufacturing environment.
- Hands-on background in composite manufacturing, including layup, curing, bonding, trimming, and assembly.
- Experience developing process qualification and validation plans for manufacturing processes and equipment.
- Familiarity with automated composite manufacturing or advanced manufacturing technologies is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to solve complex technical problems in fast-paced, resource-limited environments.
- Experience working cross-functionally with Manufacturing Engineering, Tooling, Supply Chain, and Operations.
- Knowledge of basic industrial engineering principles such as statistical analysis, process capability, and variation reduction.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Materials Science, or a related technical discipline preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly document and communicate quality requirements.
