Job Duties

  • Software Safety Standards & Requirements

    • Apply software safety standards (e.g., DO-178C, MIL-STD-882, AMCOM 385-17, Joint Software Safety Engineering Handbook) throughout the development lifecycle.
    • Identify hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards from initial concept through qualification testing.
  • Civil & Defense Safety Process

    • Demonstrate familiarity with civil safety processes: SAE ARP-4761 and ARP-4754.
    • Demonstrate familiarity with defense safety processes: MIL-STD-882.
  • SAE ARP4761 Analyses

    • Aircraft and System Functional Hazard Assessments (AFHA/SFHA)
    • Aircraft and System Safety Assessments (PASA, PSSA, ASA, SSA)
    • Particular Risk Analysis (PRA)
    • Zonal Safety Analysis (ZSA)
    • Common Mode Analysis (CMA)
  • MIL-STD-882 Analyses

    • Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA)
    • Operational & Support Hazard Analysis (O&SHA)
    • Health Hazard Analysis (HHA)
    • System/Subsystem Hazard Analysis (SHA/SSHA)
    • Hazardous Materials
    • Failure Modes and Effects Criticality Analyses (FMECA)
    • Safety Assessment Report (SAR)
  • Model-Based Systems & Safety Analysis

    • Utilize model-based systems engineering (MBSE) and model-based safety analysis (MBSA) principles (experience or training is desired).
  • Collaboration & Communication

    • Work with cross-functional teams to resolve complex functional systems issues.
    • Build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external customers.
    • Brief leadership and customers on technical findings and recommendations.
  • Aircraft Systems Knowledge

    • Possess technical and functional understanding of aircraft and aircraft systems.
    • Operational understanding of aircraft, aircraft systems, and related support systems is highly desirable.

Job Qualifications

  • Experience

    • 2+ years on aircraft or system development/sustainment programs that utilize structured safety program processes or plans.
  • Education

    • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field (science, technology, engineering, or math).
    • Related degrees with relevant experience (e.g., military rotorcraft/powered lift aviator or mechanic qualification) will be considered.
    • Advanced degrees will be viewed as additional experience.
  • Security Clearance

    • Must be eligible to obtain a Secret Security Clearance.
