Job Duties

  1. Performs work as outlined in work orders timely and signs when work is completed. 
  2. Notify his supervisor immediately of any condition that may arise that could present him with problems of parts, materials, airworthiness, workmanship or schedule.
  3. Coordinates with the Designated Inspector when a progressive inspection is to take place and notifies the Designated Inspector prior to closing a given area or for final inspection.
  4. Performs work with sufficient hand tools to perform assigned duties which include assemble, install, and connect parts, fittings, and assemblies on aircraft, using layout tools, hand tools, power tools, and fasteners such as bolts, screws, rivets, and clamps.
  5. Continuously abreast of current technical maintenance standards and methods.
  6. Uses current revision of technical data when performing work and include such data in the work order file.
  7. Uses only serviceable or new parts when accomplishing work on airframe, engine and components.
  8. Completes parts/components requisitions accurately and timely including proper part number, quantity, work order and operation be announced for parts traceability, to meet scheduled delivery of aircraft or other components.
  9. Responsible in keeping work area clean and in an orderly manner.
  10. Ensures that appropriate maintenance manual, repair and inspection procedures, service bulletins and letters or other data as appropriate for work accomplished are included as part of the work order.
  11. Ensures work order discrepancy corrective action is adequate for work accomplished.
  12. Notifies supervisor of any tasks performed which should be documented in the On The Job Training (OJT) record.
  13. Ensure that all equipment/components removed for repair and/or to gain access are properly documented, tagged and identified on appropriate forms as outlined in RSM.
  14. Ensure that parts/components as received from the parts department are accompanied by the applicable forms.
  15. Ensure that parts/components as received from the parts department that could possibly require a “Core Return” are acknowledged and that the core is returned to the stock room in a timely manner.

Education and Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and a minimum of five years of sheetmetal experience.
 
Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
 
Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
 
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
 
Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully an individual should have the ability to interact with and enter data into spreadsheet software.
 
Other Skills and Abilities:  Ability to work effectively and contribute in a team environment and self-direct work.
 
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.  The employee is frequently required to sit; walk, talk, climb up to 27 feet while wearing fall restraint equipment, or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to stand and stoop or crouch.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to travel occasionally.
 
Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions, outdoor weather conditions such as extreme cold and heat, work near moving mechanical parts and vibration and work in high, precarious places.  Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and work with explosives.  The noise level in the work environment falls within acceptable limits of OSHA guidelines.
